Boroujerdi: Terrorist Groups Are in Unenviable Situation, Syrians Will Defeat Enemies

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Speaker of the People's Assembly, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, affirmed that the steadfastness of the Syrian people and the sacrifices of the Syrian Army have foiled the plots of the US, the Western countries and the Zionism which aim to undermine Syria's sovereignty and independence and divert it from its resisting pan-Arab approach.

Al-Laham's stress came during his meeting on Sunday with Chairman of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee at the Iranian Shoura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who is heading a parliamentary delegation.

He pointed out that the US and its allies in the region are openly sending terrorists and mercenaries to Syria to destabilize it and destroy its infrastructure, hailing the countries friendly to the Syrian people, especially Iran, Russia and China and the BRICS group, for their role in consolidating the Syrians' steadfastness and standing by their just causes at the international forums.

Al-Laham affirmed that the interaction of all spectrums of the community in the framework of the political program for solving the crisis in Syria reflects greatly on the ground in a way which stresses the inevitability of political solution to come out of the crisis in Syria safely.

For his part, Boroujerdi pointed out that the request made by Switzerland to hold a tripartite meeting with Syria and Iran affirms the sovereignty of the Syrian state and legitimacy of its government and the readiness of such countries to hold dialogue with it, noting that this tripartite meeting will be held in Damascus.

He highlighted the surprise which Leader of the Justice and Development Party in Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, must have felt by the steadfastness of the Syrian government and people for over two years, at a time when he believed that the scheme to bring about Syria's downfall would not take more than two months.

The Iranian official pointed out that the political program for solving the crisis in Syria demands an international political action to stand in the face of what those who claim to be "Friends of Syria" are doing.

Boroujerdi stressed that Syria has many true allies and friends like Iran, Iraq, Russia, China, the BRICS group and the Latin America countries.

He added that those friends "should come together openly and announce their support to Syria and its people and take advantage of the U.S. public support to terrorism and al-Qaeda at the media level in a way that we can clarifies the reality of the organized terrorism Syria is being subjected to," expressing the Iranian Shura Council's readiness to host such a political action.

He noted that the armed terrorist groups operating against the Syrian people "are in an unenviable situation thanks to the determination and will of the Syrian people and their leadership to thwart the conspiracy, which gives us hope that the Syrian people will achieve victory over its enemies.
